Heralded instantly as one of Miami’s leading rap voices, Gato expressed an outspoken, self-empowered swagger that rallied the streets of his city and elsewhere. Toussaint Daniel, better known as Gato, is a Haitian-American hip-hop Kreyol artist who is based in Little Haiti, Miami. Gato is widely lauded for his complex and politically aware lyrical content, and his sharply honed live performances.
Born in Haiti and raised in the seedy, confrontational Miami Dade area, Gato grew up like the regular urban survivor. What wasn't common, however, was the means by which he carried himself. Born with a speech impediment, people have always undermined the young MC yet he has used that as a fuel and through his lyrics Gato has set himself apart from many Hip Hop Kreyol MCs living outside of Haiti.
Early in 2009, Gato signed with RKM Recordz and began working on his first solo project. Gato's first major look came on the hit single, "Nan Miami," where Gato melancholically take his listeners on a journey through Miami and how things are in the hood. The buzz gained from that song transitioned the “gully” rapper into a star in the streets of Little Haiti and just recently the song was on the countdown for some of the top Hip Hop shows in Haiti.
“Pray for me”, his latest single, released just last week to extensive critical lauding and media embrace, Gato set the stage for a career that promises longevity. The track gives listeners a deeper understanding of this MC’s soul as he looks for guidance and asks the Holy Spirit to protect him and his comrades.
Following this track, Gato will release a few collaboration that were recorded earlier this year with Barikad Crew, Rockfam, Sesa Konsa, Imposs and a few other MC’s from Miami and the Antilles.
